LIL YAN

Comic Illustrator and Painter from Athens, Greece

About me

Art has always felt as a part of myself from a very young age. At the age of sixteen I figured that making art is not only giving me pleasure but I can also make my livings doing what I love. Since then, there hasn’t been a day that I haven’t thought, seen or created Art.

Exhibitions

I’ve taken place in every Art Exhibition of “Peri Texnis Art School” from 2014-2017.
In 2019 I was a part of a freelance exhibition at “Orizondas Gegonoton” where I participated for the first time with Cartoon Illustrations and since then, I’ve attended and Art Exhibition in Messolongi in 2019 with a short Comic Book story of Edgar Allan Poe.
At the University that I studied we also had every year a short sum up of the year in which I participated with big Posters.
Currently, I am waiting for the results of “METAXA Spiritual Drink” new logo competition I took part in.

What was your artistic journey?

I started as a self taught Artist, and also had a lot of help from my parents, since they are both Artists. I have attended many Art classes ever since, and finally got in the School of Fine Arts in Thessaloniki.
What I figured out there was that a piece of myself was hidden in the Comics field! So, I attended Comics Creating lessons and now I am ready to find the rest of my pieces that are hidden in the Arts.

Which Region has impacted your artistic journey most and why?

I’m proud of the area that I was raised. Despite the fact that I was born and lived until I was a teenager in a quiet mountain side of Athens I consider Exarcheia as my home-place. Exarcheia is the place of glory and crisis, street-art and thrill, kindness and danger. Exiting my house was a fresh face-touch of street graffiti and canned-color smell in the air. Every corner of the neighborhood block is covered with shapes, colors, personal thoughts, political, social or romantic messages, stickers on the walls, the voices of the street book-sellers, the tiny little plants that were fighting with the concrete basement and eventually win. All that scenery makes me feel like I live in a painting, that lets me breathe and live within it.

About my specific techniques

I’ve worked with acrylics and charcoals for many years and, although I love those materials, the last years I’ve developed new skills with watercolors, inks and ecolines.
I enjoy digital painting even if I prefer natural materials.

The region of Attika, Greece

Every educated person who reads about Athens, the capital of Greece, immediately thinks about ancient glories: the place where Socrates and Plato developed their philosophical and political theories. Majestic temples and ancient marble statues appear in front of the imaginary view. Many stories from the world of gods and legends are woven around t…
