What's unique about the Baden-Württemberg region?

The country in the southwest was once known for tinkerers, cars and thrift. Some things are changing, a lot is in upheaval in the third-largest state with more than eleven million inhabitants: the economy, technology, everyday culture. If you take a closer look, you will find a rich mixture of high culture and subcultures, old and new masterpieces, diverse international influences and in between sometimes rather hidden art treasures.
When looking at the art landscape, the large number of art and music colleges is striking, of which there are more in Baden-Württemberg than in any other federal state. These include the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, the University of Design in Karlsruhe, the Pop Academy based in Mannheim, the Academy of Performing Arts and, also in Ludwigsburg, the internationally renowned Baden-Württemberg Film Academy.
The ZKM (Center for Art and Media) in Karlsruhe occupies an outstanding position, especially in the area of interactive, participatory and performative exhibitions.

The Baden-Württemberg's regional art scene

The art landscape in the state capital is also diverse. Renowned museums with important collections can be found in Stuttgart, not least in the Alte and Neue Staatsgalerie and in the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. But the city also has numerous smaller galleries and many exciting current projects to offer. A wide variety of off-spaces and initiatives have emerged in recent years. The rents are expensive, temporary interim solutions are in demand, which are sometimes short-lived, but exciting. Typically Stuttgart: in the middle of one of the largest construction sites in Europe – it’s about a railway project – discarded railway wagons have become an important part of the Stuttgart subculture.
At Apeironart we believe that Baden-Württemberg is changing. As everywhere in the world, artists and their forms of expression are both eyewitnesses and engines of change. It remains exciting to follow the interplay.
